Monday 25th June 2012 13 Assembly today was a celebration to mark the opening of World Sports Week and explain all the events taking place. The first event is to be a Flag Ceremony followed by a torch relay. Every child in the school has made an Olympic Torch and three from each class have been chosen to take part in the relay, during the assembly the children who had been chosen explained how they made their torches.

The school field was the venue for a spectacular opening to World Sports Week. The event started with a Flag Ceremony featuring flags from several countries including UAE, the World Sports Week flag and Get Set. This was followed by our very own Torch Relay. Every child in the school had made an Olympic Torch and three from each class were chosen to take part in the relay, started by Reception the torch was passed to each class positioned around the running track until it was returned by Year 6.

The Medal Ceremony was held on Friday 29th June 2012, special guests Mr David Whalley (Assistant Director of Learning Calderdale) presented the medals and Mrs Julie Bousfield (Ling Bob Chair of Governors) presented the certificates. The event opened with a flag parade, each of the flag bearers explained why their flag was in the parade. Mr Whalley related his memory of Bob Beaman breaking the Long Jump World Record, he jumped 8.9m in 1968 at the Olympic Games in Mexico. The ceremony was concluded by awarding Blue Ribbon medals to the fastest children at Ling Bob. You can watch the video here:
